Congress Adopts the Stars and Stripes designating June 14 as “Flag Day”!

On June 14, 1777, the Second Continental Congress passed a resolution establishing an official flag for the new nation: “Resolved, That the flag of the thirteen United States shall be thirteen stripes, alternate red and white; that the union be thirteen stars, white in a blue field, representing a new constellation.” This decision marked the birth of the Stars and Stripes, a symbol of freedom and unity that would grow to represent the United States of America around the world. Today, June 14th is celebrated as Flag Day in the United States, honoring this pivotal moment in the nation’s history.

So, to Supreme Court Justice Alito, his flag loving wife, and the rest of the MAGA supporters who are hell-bent to desecrate our flag, our Democracy, and our Constitution. When you hang the Flag of the United States, our Stars and Stripes, do it properly, with the reverence and dignity that is expected.

I wore this flag on my sleeve for over 27 years as a law enforcement officer and firefighter. I saluted this flag, daily. While doing so, I remembered all the ones before me who fought, and died, sacrificing their all for our freedoms we take for granted, and this SCOTUS along with this faction of the Republican Party are so hell-bent to take away from us. While saluting this flag, I remembered the men and women who, like me, pinned a badge on their chest and fought crime in the streets around the clock to keep everyone safe. The first responders of this nation.

And today, I remember the officers who gallantly fought to save our Democratic way of life on January 6, 2021 against the tyranny of murderous thugs sent to our Nations Capitol to subvert the results of the election to keep one person in charge who actually lost the election.
