School is Back in Session. So, Shootings Start Back Up!

As of this writing, 4 students have been killed and 9 to 20 others injured. Why???

School has began this week in states around the nation. Georgia is no exception. Everyone excited about football season starting back up, but there’s always a downfall to everything. In this case, another senseless school shooting.

In a small community about 45 miles northeast of Atlanta, Winder, Georgia, the location of Apalachee High School, with a student body of around 1800 students, a young man entered the school grounds and began during a weapon. In the few minutes he fired, there were 4 killed, 2 students and 2 teachers, with an additional 9 to 20 people injured.

The suspect, Colt Gray, reported to be a 14-year-old student of the high school, was taken into custody. He is current being questioned by law enforcement, but at the writing of this report, no motive has been issued. No reasoning for the shooting. No explanation how this young man was able to get this firearm into the school. And no mention of the type of firearm it was. Gray is being charged with multiple counts of Murder and will be handled as an adult as he moves through the criminal justice system.

The first 9-1-1 call came into the sheriffs department at about 9:30am Eastern time. The severity of the injuries, or the types of injuries, have not been made clear at this time. So, it’s j known if those injured how many are from actually being shot, or hit by bullet fragment, or falling down getting out of the school. Those injuries have not been made clear at this time.

Georgia Governor Brian Kemp immediately called for all state resources be made available for the incident, as well as President Biden making all Federal resources immediately available.

President Biden, after being briefed after the shooting said in a statement that he is “mourning the deaths of those whose lives were cut short due to more senseless gun violence.”

“What should have been a joyous back-to-school season in Winder, Georgia, has now turned into another horrific reminder of how gun violence continues to tear our communities apart. Students across the country are learning how to ‘duck and cover’ instead of how to read and write. We cannot continue to accept this as normal,” President Biden said.

President Biden also is calling for ALL Republicans in Congress to work across the aisle to do more on curbing gun violence.

There’s numerous law enforcement agencies at the school at this time with investigation ongoing by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, assisted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

I was listening to Democratic candidate Harris speak in New Jersey. She was laying out her tax plan, economic plan, when she broke away from her planned speech and went “off-script”.

Harris commented “I have to go off-script here a few minutes. The shooting which took place a short time ago in Georgia is a “senseless tragedy”, adding “we’ve got to end the epidemic of gun violence in our country once and for all.” Harris then described her visits around the country to college campuses last year when she met with Gen-Z students to discuss gun violence. She stated that one of the things she asked every time she went into an auditorium…..”raise your hand if at any point from kindergarten through the 12th grade you had to go through active shooter training.”

Harris added “every hand went up!”

She also noted that she had to go through earthquake drills and fire drills in California. When she commented about her having these drills in school, the adults behind her were all shaking their heads up and down because they too had experienced the same thing, as have I when I was in school, and I’m sure most of my readers have.

“But our kids are sitting in a classroom, where they should be fulfilling their God-given potential, and some part of their brain is worried about a shooter busting through the door of the classroom. It does not have to be this way!” She said. She continued stating “this is one of the many issues at stake in this election.”
